Kinderdijk is a small village in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands, located about 15 kilometers east of Rotterdam. It is famous for its impressive network of 19 windmills, built around 1740, which are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These windmills were built to help manage water levels in the area, as the Netherlands is a country prone to flooding.Today, visitors can explore the windmills, which are still in operation, and learn about their history and importance to Dutch culture. The site also features a visitor center with exhibits about windmills and their role in Dutch water management. There are also walking and cycling paths that offer scenic views of the windmills and the surrounding countryside.
