Alkmaar is a city in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. It is located about 40 kilometers north of Amsterdam and has a population of around 110,000 people.The city is known for its historic city center, which is lined with canals, charming buildings, and many shops and restaurants. One of the city's most famous landmarks is the cheese market, which takes place every Friday morning from April to September. During the cheese market, locals and tourists alike gather to watch as cheese carriers in traditional costumes carry huge wheels of cheese on wooden sledges.
