This remains true today. \nIt was here in the 17th April 1821 that Captian Francis Allman with soldiers and convicts landed with 3 ships. Here he set up a colony to punish convicts. Very quickly the town started being built. \nHere you will find three Plack’s and a statue to Sir Edmund Barton. This was built in 1841 and has been used ever since. It is believed about 28 people where buried here, but only two burial vaults and two head stones remain today. \nThe first person to be buried here was a 28 year old convict named James McMan from Dublin. He was sentenced to 14 years and arrived in Australia in 1816. He was apart of the original group of convicts to come to Port Macquarie. The footings of two of these cottages were revealed in 2006 during an archaeological excavation. They have been left exposed and may be viewed from the Lower-Ground floor of the Glasshouse.\n\nSome artefacts found during the archaeological excavations are on display aswell. \n The positions of the cottages and some other buildings are shown in the display of grey of tiles on the Ground floor in the main section of the glasshouse and also in the outside footpath.
