At the entrance there is a gate, it is not locked so don’t shy away from the magnificent reserve because of this. Open up and drive through to serenity! Bengalla is quite a way to drive to get to the river in comparison to the other reserves where it is only 100 metres or so. But it is worth the extra few hundred metres as this spot has so many different camping areas that are quite spread out so you can get a little bit more privacy if you like. This spot is quite the treat for the adrenalin junkie with locals referring to this spot of river as the rapids. Quite the current and rocks creating a flow that imitates that of river rapids in one portion of the river. If you do decide to take on the rapids, then be sure to be extremely cautious and I wouldn’t recommend it for kids. There is plenty of other safe swimming spots in this reserve and even some red rock to go exploring on. Now this reserve is a treat, with what feels like a rainforest on entry, large silver trees and lush greenery all enticing you in. There are camping spots here, however due to recent flooding it is really quite tricky to get down to the river with a vehicle. You can park up the top to camp and walk down to the river, or if you are camping in a tent/swag you may be able to lug your camping set up down the rocky hill (see the picture of me walking up the hill) and have a private paradise if you’re quite fit and able. There is a bit of a river current at this spot and the river drops quite deep quickly. However, if you go exploring beyond the obvious river access there is some nice little sandy spots and pebble areas that the water does not flow so strong and would be ideal for kids! We lay on a little sand beach and enjoyed the sound of the flowing river, birds and wind in the trees. This is a nice flat spot with easy smooth access for any vehicle. It is a very wide part of the river and you are able to pop a boat in here as it is so flat. A nice tranquil stop to finish off the day, again with plenty of camping, fishing and swimming. As this was our last stop on the trip and the river is so wide, it creates a lovely open area to view the sky for sunset and would even be ideal for a little picnic with a glass of wine on the tray of a ute or on the river banks.
