It is a symbol and great achievement of the Victorian period (1837-1901). This bridge not only solves traffic needs. It is also a true work of art. With Gothic architecture, the two towers on both sides of the soaring bridge are connected by the bridge deck. The aerial walkway is 44m above the water, 82m long. The bridge is decorated with fine art details, colorful art reliefs and screws.\n\nThis bridge has a pedestrian lane. The Tower of London was strategically placed to defend against possible adversaries, having access to London with the Thames from the sea.\n\n \n\nThe Romans, about 2,000 years ago, were the first to establish London as the city we know it today. Take care to cross the busy road that parallels the river, then climb up Fish Street Hill on the opposite side of the road. Fish Street Hill is the first road northwards for traffic coming east from Westminster after crossing under London Bridge. Keep to the right-hand side of the road the short way until the road bends left. On this bend to your right is the Monument.\n\n\nIn 1666 there was the Great Fire of London, destroying much of London. The Monument is a memorial to that event, its height 205ft, is the same as the distance to the bakers shop in neighbouring Pudding Lane where the fire started.\n\n \n\nThe Monument is the tallest stone column in the world, topped by a vase of flames.
