Did you know that this market has been around since the 17th century and was named after the Marathi word for \"fourth\" because it was the fourth important stop on the Grand Trunk Road? As we stroll through the market, take a look around and see what draws your attention. I personally come here to sample some of the delicious street food and to see the intricate handcrafted goods that the local artisans sell. As a planner and culinary enthusiast, I can tell you that Chawri Bazar is a foodie's paradise with its fantastic diversity of cuisine. And, as an expert on this area, I can guide you to the best hidden gems that only a local would know.\n\nThere's a saying that goes, \"when in Delhi, do as the Delhiites do\", and at Chawri Bazar, we do just that. Our tour is designed to help you experience the local way of life, and there's no better place to do that than here. This market is vibrant and full of life, and it's an excellent representation of the city's cultural and historic significance. I once heard someone describe Chawri Bazar as \"a sensory explosion\", and I couldn't agree more. Close your eyes for a second and just listen to the vendors' calls, smell the aroma of fresh spices, and feel the buzz of energy from the locals.\n\nAs we explore the market, I encourage you to fully interact with the environment. Try bargaining with the local vendors, it's part of the charm of the Chawri Bazar experience. Engage with the locals, ask them about their customs or the history of this remarkable area. I challenge you to try something new, step out of your comfort zone, and embrace the local way of life.\n\nChawri Bazar offers so much value, with its unique features and hidden gems that would be hard to find online. I love this stop because it's a time capsule of history, with its original feel preserved over the centuries. So take your time, explore the market, and discover its charms. And remember, there's no hurry. This market has been here for centuries, and it's not going anywhere.\n\nNow, on to the next stop on our Food & Cultural-Masterji Haveli tour. If you're ready to move on, let's continue to discover the secrets of Delhi.\n\n"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FHvApBmaN7F7Rgx7OqzKg%2FOld%20Delhi%20Walk%20(7).jpg?alt=media&token=2c29e327-9b9e-497a-b617-4393d912cb2e"},{"type":"video","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FHvApBmaN7F7Rgx7OqzKg%2FOld%20Delhi%20Walk%20(86).mp4?alt=media&token=99dc316e-5f64-4d6f-bbee-377ab2c8a823"},{"type":"text","content":"Chawri Bazaar, originally known as Chawdi (wide road) Bazaar, is a wholesale market that was established in 1840. The market runs along a long stretch of a street with the Hauz Qazi Chowk at one end and the backyard of the Jama Masjid at the other.\nIn the 19th century, Chawri Bazaar was a place for the rich and the young to enjoy their evenings. It is said that it was once a promenade of the Walled City. The ground floor comprised shops occupied by merchants and the floors above were kothas, a place where courtesans lived and performed mujras (a dance form). These courtesans, or tawaifs as they were called, sat in their balconies to attract customers. A lot of youngsters used to spend their time here, and somewhere there would be musicians reciting a raag or playing the tabla."}]},{"address":"Khari Baoli","location":{"longitudeDelta":0.10218818160659443,"latitudeDelta":0.09219986310369421,"latitude":28.659634585995217,"longitude":77.22098903822369},"media":[{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FHvApBmaN7F7Rgx7OqzKg%2FOld%20Delhi%20Walk%20(16).JPG?alt=media&token=ee1e9c94-e5bb-4e08-ab0d-aae7dd2d5fd6"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FHvApBmaN7F7Rgx7OqzKg%2FOld%20Delhi%20Walk%20(21).JPG?alt=media&token=079dd884-deef-4a3f-9890-265ad5aebd3e"},{"type":"video","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FHvApBmaN7F7Rgx7OqzKg%2FOld%20Delhi%20Walk%20(84).mp4?alt=media&token=d40e95fe-b45c-442e-9bc2-54a0eff8768a"},{"type":"text","content":"Delhi’s Khari Baoli is Asia’s largest spice market, and its journey to this fame has been a long yet an interesting one. It came into being during the 17th century, dating back to the Mughal era.
