Pick up a map and get the lightest information on the tides driving conditions and wildlife. You can buy your beach permits hear however it's a lot easier to buy them on the QNPWS website before you leave. Food and shopping options are limited once you cross the Noosa River so be sure to stock up. In particular if you plan to have a fire you must bring your own firewood. Burning wood collected on or near the beach is prohibited and heavily placed. The area you'll be traveling in has a rich indigenous history unfortunately largely ignored for the first 200 years of white settlement, however many of the local names come from the local Kubi Kubi dialect including Noosa which means shade beneath trees and Cooloola which was the indigenous name for the local Sighing Cypress. The indigenous people used these trees to make rafts (Coolootgin) to cross the Noosa River more or less the same place you will cross. There are no shops or facilities at the river crossing and during peak periods the wait to cross can be up to half an hour or even more so be prepared. If you're into fishing why not take a rod rigged with a light lure and spend the time you're waiting flicking into the river? Before crossing under the beach be sure to let some air out of your tires as this will greatly increase your chances of not getting bogged. If it's your first time doing a breach crossing just remember to give other cars plenty of space and accelerate when you hit the sand. Slowing down is a sure way to getting yourself bogged. If you do get bogged don't stress. A helpful local will be sure to offer to tow you out. If someone helps you out don't forget to say thank you and it is customary to offer them $20 to buy themselves some beers. This is money well spent because it not only shows your appreciation, but makes the person more likely to help others. If you see someone else bugged and you don't feel confident enough to help again just be polite enough to tell them. Remember to obey the road rules and if you're not sure which side a car will pass you on, use your indicators to show that you want to keep left. You may also encounter washouts where freshwater streams cut through the beach sometimes by up to 50 cm or more, so make sure you slow down when you see one. Traveling\n up to Red Canyon, keeping an eye out on the ocean for whales and towards the trees to see the majestic sea eagles that grace the area. \n\nThere's ample evidence that the local indigenous people hunted and fished or along this beach and the name Teewah itself would appear to be an Aboriginal name although there is no obvious meaning. Some locals think it's the Kubi Kubi word for 'rainbow' but this is not correct. Named by Captain Cook because from the sea the two hillocks appear to be two islands, a lighthouse was built on the point in 1884. The history of the point is of course much older than that with the area having enormous spiritual significance to the local Kabi Kabi people. Recent excavations have shown that the point itself was used as a burial ground by the local indigenous people.\n\nA local pod of dolphins call the area home, and the 30 minute round trip lighthouse walk takes you to a number of vantage points to watch them play."},{"type":"text","content":"At Double Island Point you need to leave the beach and travel overland to reach Rainbow Beach. This crossing is notoriously difficult and if it's your first time, before you cross, pull up on the hard sand and watch how others are doing the crossing. One day Burwilla, a wicked tribesman, stole Murrawar to make her his slave. Murrawar worked all day while Burwilla sat in the shade admiring his evil spirited killing boomerang. His boomerang was larger than the largest tree in the forest. After some time Murrawar managed to run away running along the beach as fast as her legs could carry her. Burwilla threw his boomerang and it chased Murrawar. Murrawar called out for help as she fell to the ground, too frightened to run. Suddenly a loud noise in the sky saw Marrawar’s faithful rainbow racing towards her across the sea.
