3 days in Hobart - no car required!
There's lots of ways to explore Hobart, this guide is from our own long weekend adventure which might inspire you to make your own experience!
We didn't want to take a lot of time off from work or spend a huge amount of money seeing all the sights - we just wanted to spend an interesting, extended weekend away.
We'd seen other parts of Tassie over the years but never Hobart.
So…follow in our footsteps and spend 3 days in Hobart without a car :-)
To start, skip the stuff below and just go to stop 1.
For those who like to have a plan, here's the itinerary:
SATURDAY
- Salamanca Markets
- Tasmanian Museum And Art Gallery
- Mawson's Antarctic Hut (replica)
SUNDAY
- Ferry to M.O.N.A.
- M.O.N.A. - Museum of New and Old Art
MONDAY
- Kunanyi / Mt Wellington

In a wooden hut?\n\nThese are a complete replica of the huts where the expedition team led by Douglas Mawson lived for 2 years over 100 years ago.\n\nThe main hut was like an extreme share house - about twice the size of a suburban bedroom, 18 men lived there for a year. The replica has been decked out exactly like the original, so you get a very good feeling of what it was like for those men.\n\nThe replica huts are open 7 days a week and full price tickets are $15.\n\n"},{"type":"img","content":"https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/freeguides-prod.appspot.com/o/assets%2Ftours%2FtymXFJVGsT9Gr5q8yMB0%2Fstop_2_3.jpeg?alt=media&token=70d7f500-2a7b-4f63-9db7-e67f63395e80"},{"type":"text","content":"You can learn more at the web site:"},{"title":"Mawson's Hut Foundation","type":"link","content":"https://www.mawsons-huts.org.au/"},{"stop":"Mantra One Sandy Bay Road Hobart","type":"text","content":"After experiencing a taste of an over-crowded basic lifestyle you'll be ready to soak up some culture in a lovely old open building.\n\nKeep going up Argyle Street, cross Davey Street then Thurn right at the next junction (Macquarie Street).
